The Problem

Ram Pottery needed an online storefront that could present handcrafted Mauritian pottery with the same care as the physical showroom, without a heavy off-the-shelf e-commerce platform.

The Solution

A custom, mobile-first e-commerce platform was built with product collections, cart management and a streamlined checkout tailored to how the brand sells its pieces.

Approach

  • Audited the existing product catalogue and photography to design a presentation-first layout
  • Built responsive product and collection pages optimised for mobile shopping
  • Implemented cart and checkout flows with minimal friction for first-time buyers

Challenges

Balancing rich product photography with fast load times on mobile connections required careful image optimisation throughout the catalogue.

Architecture

Built with Next.js and React on the frontend and Supabase for product, order and customer data, keeping the storefront fast while data stays structured for future growth.

Current Outcome

The storefront is live and used by Ram Pottery to sell directly to customers online.

Future Improvements

Future work includes expanding payment options and adding customer accounts with order history.

Lessons Learned

For a craft-focused brand, presentation quality drives conversion as much as checkout speed.
