The Problem

Travellers and tourism providers in Mauritius lacked a single trusted marketplace connecting verified accommodation, activities and transport providers with bookings in one place.

The Solution

MyMauritiusTrip was built as a travel marketplace connecting verified tourism providers with travellers, covering accommodation, activities, transport, bookings and provider dashboards.

Approach

  • Designed a provider verification process to build traveller trust
  • Modelled bookings across accommodation, activities and transport in one system
  • Built provider dashboards so businesses can manage their own listings and bookings

Features

Verified provider listingsAccommodation & activitiesTransport bookingsEnd-to-end booking flowProvider dashboards

Challenges

Coordinating three different booking types — accommodation, activities and transport — under one consistent flow required careful data modelling.

Architecture

Built with Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase and PostgreSQL, structured around a marketplace data model with separate provider and traveller-facing views.

Current Outcome

The marketplace is live, connecting verified tourism providers with travellers across Mauritius.

Future Improvements

Planned work includes provider ratings and reviews, and integrated online payments for bookings.

Lessons Learned

Trust signals, like provider verification, matter as much as booking convenience in a travel marketplace.
