The Problem

KS Contracting Ltd needed enterprise accounting software covering invoicing, VAT, payments and credit notes suited to the specifics of a contracting business.

The Solution

An accounting platform was built covering invoicing, VAT, payments, credit notes, dashboards and financial reporting, tailored to contracting-specific workflows.

Approach

  • Studied contracting-specific invoicing and payment cycles before designing the schema
  • Built role-based access so finance and operations see only what they need
  • Layered financial reporting and dashboards on top of the core ledger

Features

Invoicing & VATPayments trackingCredit notesFinancial dashboardsRole-based access (RBAC)

Challenges

Contracting invoicing often involves staged payments and retentions, which needed accurate handling beyond a standard invoicing model.

Architecture

Built with Next.js and TypeScript on Supabase and PostgreSQL, with RBAC enforced at the API level for secure financial reporting.

Current Outcome

The platform is in production use at KS Contracting Ltd, supporting day-to-day invoicing and financial reporting.

Future Improvements

Planned work includes staged-payment scheduling and expanded reporting exports.

Lessons Learned

Industry-specific invoicing logic — like staged payments — needs to be designed in from the start, not bolted onto a generic model.
