Technologies
The Problem
GPWCCU needed a secure system to manage members, savings, withdrawals, loans and repayments that had previously relied on manual cash-book processes.
The Solution
A cooperative management platform was built covering the full member lifecycle — savings, withdrawals, loans, repayments, receipts and cash-book operations — with detailed reporting.
Approach
- Mapped the cooperative's existing savings, loan and repayment processes in detail
- Modelled member accounts, transactions and loan schedules in a secure database
- Built cash-book and receipt workflows that mirror how staff actually process transactions
Features
Challenges
Financial cooperative data is sensitive and transaction-heavy, so accuracy and auditability had to be built in from the first schema decision.
Architecture
Built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, Supabase and PostgreSQL, with structured transaction records supporting detailed financial reporting.
Current Outcome
The platform is in production use, handling member savings, loans and cash-book operations for the cooperative.
Future Improvements
Planned work includes member self-service statements and automated loan repayment reminders.
Lessons Learned
In financial systems, an accurate audit trail is as important as the transaction itself.
